Family is Forever – National Assisted Living

September 2, 2017

The theme for this years assisted living week is perfect and so true…“Family is Forever”. The theme is inspired by a quote by poet Maya Angelou,“Family isn’t always blood, it’s the people in your life who want you in theirs: the ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.”

In my eyes, this is exactly what our community is all about. We are blended together, residents and staff members, at different stages in our lives but all wanting the best for each other; willing to do what it takes to make each other laugh, smile, feel safe, cared for, and most of all…loved.

We are not perfect, but God has brought us together and we will celebrate “our family” and all those that sup-port, volunteer and help this community thrive, flourish and grow. Come join in during the week and enjoy our special activities, guests and have some fun! CLICK HERE for a copy of the September newsletter with activities listed.

National Assisted Living Week is Scheduled for September 11th-16th.

September 7, 2016

National Assisted Living week is scheduled for September 11th-16th. Our theme this year is ‘Keep Connected’. This theme embraces the difference technology has made in keeping connected to the ones we love. With phones, iPads and computers it has become much easier to keep in touch and be able to “see” those we can’t be with in person. Between face time and skype, you can see those that are miles away. We will also be celebrating the different ways we keep in touch the “old fashioned” ways: letters, cards and face to face conversations. These are the ways that are becoming obsolete but are the most precious to us. We hope that everyone will join in on our special events and take advantage of “Keeping Connected”. Click here for a link to the September newsletter containing all of the events of National Assisted Living week.

Magic of Music – Celebrating Assisted Living Week

September 8, 2014

National Assisted Living Week is September 7-13. This is a time we celebrate our community, the residents and the staff. As we have become a family, we recognize our relationships and the spirit in which we live on a daily basis, loving and supporting each other through our companionships and se-vice. This year our theme is the Magic of Music. We will be entertained by several wonderful people who have graciously donated their time and talents to hopefully bring back memories of the past and create new and exciting times.

We will be thrilled to welcome Barbara Zweigart who will sing some Patsy Cline. Barbara is known for her great performances at the Washington Opera House. Brent Biddle and Randy Lucas have treated us before with their musical talents on their guitars and banjo. They sing an array of different genres and we love to see them back. Also, rumor has it, Elvis himself will be in the building during our celebration.

We expect many other treats. Who doesn’t love a themed lunch…we all know I love them. Thursday our lunch will be themed from the 50’s. I hope everyone will embrace the past decade and be ready for the sock hop. At the end of the week, we will have a picnic in the park. We will be praying for beautiful weather and an insect free day. We are so looking forward to the weeklong celebration of our Kenton Pointe family. Make sure to look for pictures in next month’s newsletter.

Leadership Horizons Explores Health & Human Services Day

January 22, 2014

The 2013-2014 Leadership Horizons class had a full agenda for their monthly session which took place on Thursday, January 9th. The sessions focus was on health and human services within our Buffalo Trace District. The day began at Fleming County Hospital where the diverse group of community leaders were treated to a wonderful breakfast which included a presentation by hospital CEO, David Faulkner. The group was also given an enlightening tour of the hospital campus including the Sleep Lab and the new X-Ray room. The eventful day then moved onto the Women’s Crisis Center (WCC) whom provided an in-depth tour of their facility. Leadership Horizon participants were impressed by the numbers of lives touched by the WCC; it was evident what an impact the center has on those that utilize the facility. As part the group’s initiative to show its support to the community, Leadership Horizon members presented the center with donations of household items at their visit.

The day continued with a new addition to the Health & Human Services Day agenda, as the group visited Kenton Pointe Assisted Living and the Care Center at Kenton Pointe, both entities of the non-profit organization, Hospice of Hope. At this beautiful new community addition the group was treated to a delicious lunch, tours of the facility and a rundown of services provided to its residents/patients. PrimaryPlus and its trademarked LEAP program were also on-hand at Kenton Pointe to provide free health screenings to leadership participants.

The final stop of the day came with a visit to Meadowview Regional Medical Center (MRMC). The Leadership Horizon’s group was provided with a thorough tour of the facilities including seeing many of the new upgrades and expansion projects completed by the community hospital. Robert Parker, CEO of MRMC closed the tour with a overview of the Affordable Care Act and what it means for citizens of our region.
Co-sponsors of the event included Joyce Fidler of Fleming County Hospital; Tracy McGuire of PrimaryPlus; and Pam Tribby, Michael Parker, Katherine Rose and Dana Latham of Hospice of Hope.
